Winter is dead! Long live the winter!

Europe’s largest artificial ski slope opens

The 2019 snow season is all but finished, and with grumpy faces and heavy hearts we begin packing away those boots and bindings, but no! Wait a minute! Serbia has the answer to your snow sliding needs. All year round!

The Balkan state of Serbia is now the proud owners of Europe’s longest artificial ski slope situated in Kopaonik, an established winter resort.

Stretching 800m in length, with a vertical drop of 116m the huge artificial slope is serviced by a fast quad-chair that delivers year round punters all the way back into the resort centre.

The record-breaking slope takes the title away from an artificial slope in Edinburgh

The record-breaking slope takes the title away from the Midlothian Snowsports Centre near Edinburgh which only has a measly 400m.

The slope has been built by Italian experts Neveplas, a product used on slopes around the world made of synthetic bristles designed to resemble a similar surface to hardpack groomed snow.

Kopaonik is the biggest resort in Serbia and situated in the Kopaonik mountain range near to the border with Kosovo. The ski season on snow runs from late November to the end of April and the resort has around 55kms of maintained runs. And now something extra.

With a decently warm sub-alpine climate – serving up almost 200 sunny days during the year, and the price of a pint coming in around £1 maybe Serbia is well worth a look for both winter and summer.

So don’t put away your kit, just Febreze it (come on, you know you do!) and get back out there!
